Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does editing cost?
A: Each project has individual requirements and costs will vary accordingly. After a review of the manuscript, I will provide you with a total charge. Typically a piece will cost between $3.50 and $9 per page (single spaced, 12-pt font), depending on the degree of editing needed. There is a 50% non-refundable deposit, with the balance due within 10 days of completion.

Q: Do you have a minimum length for documents you will copyedit?
A: No. Even short articles benefit from having a fresh set of eyes look things over.

Q: Do you have a maximum length for documents you will copyedit?
A: I have yet to meet a book I couldn't handle.

Q: How long before I get my edited manuscript back?
A: Turn-around time depends on many factors. Obviously, an eight-page article can be edited more quickly than a 400-page book. And a piece requiring in-depth editing (as opposed to a quick review) will take more time. A short article may be done in 48 hours. A book may take two months or more.

Q: What styles do you use?
A: I am trained in AP style (most often used in newspapers and magazines) and Chicago style (frequently used for books, especially in the social science arena). However, every author has his or her own stylistic requirements, and I am flexible enough to work within any framework. The most important thing is to maintain consistency within the same piece.

Q: I'm looking for a copyeditor for my monthly publication. Would you copyedit on an ongoing basis?
A: I do currently have monthly clients and would be happy to consider adding more. Send me an email and let's talk about it.

Q: Do you offer transcription services.
A: Not at this time.

Q: Do you do indexing?
A: In conjunction with a book I have edited, I may agree to do an index, but it is not my primary expertise.

Q: How do I reach you?
A: I prefer email: editor@EditYourWork.com. However, you can also feel free to call (605) 225-1598.
